David was the biological son of Julie Olson and David Martin, but was raised by Scott Banning. David had little love for his mother Julie, and as soon as he could he left Salem. In 1975 David return to collect his inheritance from Addie so he could afford to marry his girlfriend Brooke Hamilton.

When David began to re-forge a relationship with his mother Julie, Brooke became jealous. Brooke began to spread lies and told David that his mother had been unfaithful and slept with Doug and became pregnant with Doug's child. David did not want to believe her, but after seeing Doug and Julie together he assumed it was true. David felt a renewed hatred for his mother, and after a huge fight he took Doug's car and drove it off a bridge. When his body was not found David was pronounced dead.

David eventually stumbled out of the river and was taken in by the Grant family, where he met and fell in love with Valerie Grant. After Valerie's father learned David's true identity and informed Julie her son was alive David returned to Salem. Upon returning he learned Brooke was pregnant with his child. David proposed to Brooke, but she refused knowing he loved Valerie Grant. That Christmas David brought Valerie to Salem to meet his friends and family.

In 1976 David and Valerie became engaged, but David began to have doubts about being committed to one woman, and had a one night stand with Trish Clayton.

In 1977 Valerie and David broke off their engagement, and David began to see Trish Clayton. Later that year the two were married, and in September Trish gave birth to Scotty Banning.

In 1978 Trish took Scotty Banning and left David. David hired a private investigator and eventually found Scotty living with Jeri Clayton in L.A., Trish was off doing a movie. David took Scotty and returned to Salem.

In 1978 Stephanie Woodruff began dating David, but when his wife Trish returned from the East coast the two reconciled and moved back in together.

In 1980 David came to work at Anderson Manufacturing, but was also employed by Alex Marshall to spy on Kellam Chandler, whose was attempting a take over. When Mary Anderson learned about this she had David fired and told him to leave town. David had crossed many peoples paths, and thought it best he split, so he left Trish, took Scotty, and left Salem.

In 1981 after Trish had stolen Scotty from David, David returned to Salem. Once he returned he began to work for Dr. Stuart Whyland. Soon after David found Alex Marshall in his office, he had been shot and David had picked up the murder weapon. David was charged with Alex's shooting, and was sentenced to 7 years in prison. However, on the way to prison the truck carrying him and others crashed and David managed to escape and hid in a basement of a radio station building. Renee soon found him and he helped keep him hidden.

While returning from a visit with Trish and Scotty David was shot. He made his way to the Twilight bar and met up with Nick Corelli. Nick removed he bullet and got Valerie Grant to care for David's wound. He demanded Julie pay him a large sum of dollars for David's safe return. When Nick ordered Valerie to pick up the money she refused and knocked Nick out. She picked up the money from Julie and gave it to David so he could escape from Salem.

David grew tired of running, and turned himself in, but by that time Alex had cleared David of shooting him.

However later when Renee was attacked by the strangler David was accused of attacking her and being the strangler, but when Renee awoke from her come she cleared David.

In 1982 David began dating Kayla Brady, but turned her away when Renee showed an interest in him. In November of 1982 David and Renee were married.

In 1983 Renee became pregnant with David's child, but miscarried it after falling from a horse.

In his will Stefano said in order to earn their inheritance Tony and Renee had to live under the same roof for one year, and Renee had to stay married to David Banning. Also, the will stated the first couple to have a child would receive an extra five million dollars. Renee and David reluctantly moved into the DiMera mansion with Tony and Anna.

In 1983 David eventually divorced Renee after she had tried to kill Anna DiMera. After the divorce David and Renee's murder David left Salem.


Janet Banning

Janet Banning came to Salem with her husband Scott and planned to adopted Julie Olson's son by David Martin. However Janet's happiness was short lived, she died in early 1969 as the result of a brain tumor.


Renee Dumonde Banning

Renee came to town in 1980 when Lee Dumonde, who she believed was her sister, had her stroke. Later Renee saw David Banning holding a gun in Alex Marshall's office, and Alex had been shot. David was sentenced to 7 years of jail, but managed to escape when the transport he was on crashed. David hid in the basement of a radio station, and Renee helped keep him hidden there.

In 1981 Renee met Tony DiMera, and became infatuated him. Despite warnings from Lee not to see him Renee kept seeing Tony. One night while in a hot tub Renee was attacked by the Salem Strangler. Luckily Lee happened upon the attack, and Renee lived. She was taken to the hospital, where the strangler tried again to kill her, but was interrupted again by a nurse. Renee fell into a coma, and David Banning was accused of being her attacker. However, when Renee woke up she cleared David.

In 1982 Renee was confronted and attacked by the Strangler again, and this time she saw his face, but repressed the memory. Concerned for her life Tony hid Renee in his house.

Later Tony proposed to Renee, who accepted. However, Renee discovered Lee's diary, and not only learned that Lee was really her mother, but that Stefano DiMera was her father, making Tony her half brother. Renee quickly broke things of with Tony, not telling him the real reason in order to spare his feelings. Tony refused to let Renee go, and when she told him the truth he refused to believe they were siblings.

In hopes of getting over Tony Renee turned her focus towards David Banning, who returned her feelings. In November of 1982 David and Renee married, and soon after Tony confronted Renee with some lab tests he had checked, they were not related. However, Renee decided to remain married to David.

In 1983 Renee became pregnant with David's child, but miscarried after falling from a horse.

Renee was jealous of Anna's marriage to Tony, and the fact that Anna became pregnant with his child. Renee rigged the DiMera Yacht to sink with Anna aboard, however Tony was also on the yacht when it exploded. David rescued both Tony and Anna, but Anna lost the baby.

David was appalled by what Renee had done and he divorced her and left Salem. Soon after a lonely Renee was charmed by Alex Marshall, and the two quickly wed. However their marriage was short lived, Renee learned a second will of Stefano's existed which gave her a nice sum of the DiMera fortunes. Renee realized Alex had only married her for the money. Renee then threw a big party where she announced her divorce from Alex, and then bad mouthed everyone she had invited. Later that night Tony told Renee he still loved her and they made love, but soon after Renee was found with a knife in her back and a black raven's feather. Later it turned out that Renee had died from poison before she was knifed.


Scott Banning

Scott Banning came to Salem with his wife Janet and planned to adopt Julie Olson's son by David Martin. After Janet died Scott grew close to Susan Hunter Martin, but Julie Olson was planning her revenge. When she learned the boy Scott and Janet were adopting was her son David she sued for custody and won. Eventually Julie got Scott to marry her, because it was the only way he could be in his sons life full time.

Scott was unaware that during the years of his marriage to Julie she was having an affair with Doug Williams. However tension was present between Scott and Julie, and in 1971 Scott and Julie separated, and Scott took David to another town where he took a new job.

Scott eventually returned to Salem, and Julie and Scott reconciled after Doug had married Julie's mother Addie. In 1972 Scott landed a job at Anderson Manufacturing as an architect. However, Scott died in early 1973 after being hit by a fallen beam at a construction site.

Scotty Banning is the son of David and Trish Banning, and grandson to Julie Williams.

Scotty, now called Scott, returned to Salem in 1989. Scott claimed that he owned the land that Wings was on and he forced Nick into giving him a job at the club. He soon met and fell in love with Faith Taylor, who had an exceptional signing voice. Scott became her manager and he got her a job singing at Wings.

In 1990 a visious storm hit Salem and left Faith paralyzed. Eve Donovan, who was in love with Faith's current boyfriend Scott, plotted to keep the two of them apart. Eve brought Scott's shadowy record producing scams and secrets to Faith's attention in hopes that it would cause problems. Eve's plan failed miserable. Faith walked again and when Scott was accepted to medical school, Faith and Scott left Salem.


Trish Clayton Banning

Trish came to Salem with her mother Jeri and stepfather Jack. Upon arriving Trish and her mother Jeri became an overnight singing sensation at Doug's Place. In 1975 Trish wanted to get away from her family, so she took an apartment with a now adult Mike Horton.

In 1976 Trish would learn the startling truth from her stepfather Jack Clayton that her mother used to be a prostitute, and that her father was a man named Jim Stanhope. Trish attempted to find Jim Stanhope, and when he came to Salem she was hurt that he rejected her as his daughter. Later that year Trish had a one night stand with David Banning.

In 1977 Trish's stepfather Jack Clayton began obsessing about her. One night he came to her apartment while she was alone and began attacking her. Luckily Mike Horton returned in time and began fighting with Jack Clayton. Eventually Trish hit her stepfather over the head with an iron, killing him. This incident cause Trish to breakdown, and as a result she slipped into two personalities, Cynthia and baby Lisa. Mike Horton admitted to the murder of Jack, but through counseling and therapy it was revealed that Trish killed him. Trish was cleared of the charges when it was proven she had suffered from years of abuse.

Trish moved out of her apartment with Mike and in with Brooke Hamilton. Later in 1976 Trish discovered she was pregnant with David Bannings child. In 1977 David and Trish married, and in September Trish gave birth to Scotty Banning in September of 1977.

In 1978 Trish took Scotty Banning and left David. David hired a private investigator and eventually found Scotty living with Jeri Clayton in L.A., Trish was off doing a movie. David took Scotty and returned to Salem.

In 1979 Trish returned to Salem, and was steamed to find David dating Stephanie Woodruff. Trish and David eventually reconciled and moved back in together. Later that year Trish stole a fortune in gems from a singer named Durand. She asked Margo Horton to hide the gems for her, which she did. Later Durand came looking for his diamonds, which Trish returned but he was upset when one of them was a fake. Trish realized that Earl Roscoe had scammed Margo out of a diamond, so she confronted him and eventually got the diamond back.

In 1981, after David had fled town with Scotty, Trish found him in California. She took Scotty and returned to Salem, and David soon followed. David and Trish eventually divorced one another.

Later that year Tony made Trish the manager of the Twilight Bar. Trish soon became involved with a singer named Woody King. Eventually, Trish left Salem to pursue singing options elsewhere.
