Rebecca North came to Salem in 1975 after being hired by Doug to be Hope's nanny. Soon after she was chosen by Dr. Neil Curtis to be an anonymous surrogate mother to Doug Williams. Everyone in Salem assumed her boyfriend in Paris Johnny Collins was the father. Robert LeClair proposed marriage to Rebecca, but she loved Johnny who she expected to return soon.
When Robert LeClair learned Rebecca would be giving up her baby he contacted her boyfriend Johnny LeClair, who then returned to Salem thinking the child was his. Johnny and Rebecca would become engaged, but Johnny left Rebecca on their wedding day. One month later Rebecca married Robert LeClair in June of 1976. Following her marriage she then learned from Neil that the father of her child no longer wanted the baby, and she was aloud to keep her baby, which she named little Dougie. Johnny Collins would return later that year to try and persuade Rebecca to return with him to Paris, but she instead chose to stay with Robert.
However, in 1977 Johnny Collins returned once again, and this time he managed to persuade Rebecca to leave Salem with him, and bring little Dougie. Rebecca eventually died in 1979, and Robert regained custody of little Dougie.
Robert LeClair came to Salem in 1972 to work as a Singer at Doug's place. In 1975 When he learned Doug's nanny for Hope Rebecca was pregnant he proposed to her to give the baby legitimacy, but she refused. Robert then contacted Rebecca's boyfriend Johnny when he learned she would be giving the baby up, and he returned to Salem. Johnny and Rebecca planned to marry, but Johnny left her at the alter and disappeared leaving only a note behind. In June of 1976 Rebecca finally accepted Roberts proposal and they were married.
When Rebecca Died Robert picked up little Dougie and learned from a letter in her safe deposit box that little Dougie was Doug Williams child. However when Robert confronted Neil about the insemination Neil admitted to him that Doug's sperm didn't take, and another man's was used instead.
In 1980 Robert gave Doug Williams legal custody in the event of his death, and then Robert and Little Dougie left Salem for Paris.
