David was originally planning to marry Julie Olson, but when she decided not to go through with it he became drunk and found solace in the arms of her high school friend Susan. When Susan became pregnant the two were married in 1966. In January of 1967 David's son Richard "Dickie" Martin was born. Susan wanted to make the marriage work, but David had other idea's in mind and went to Susan's parents with the truth. However, David didn't know Susan had already told them the truth. Richard and Dianne Hunter told David he should take responsibility for his actions and stay with his family.
David stayed with Susan but continued to see Julie on the side. One day at the park David put little Dickie into a swing and little Dickie fell out of the harness, struck his head, and died. Upon returning home from the hospital after his son was pronounced dead, David was shot and killed by his wife Susan Martin.
Dickie Martin was born in 1967 to David and Susan Martin. Dickie died when he fell off a swing at a playground while under the care of his father David.
Helen Martin was John Martin's wife and the mother to David Martin, and Grandmother to Richard "Dickie" Martin and David Banning. After Susan had been found not guilty in the murder of her son Helen Martin shot Susan Martin when she came to give her respects.
John Martin was Helen Martin's husband and David Martin's father. Even though Susan had killed his son he forgave her, and after she survived the surgery resulting from the shot his wife Helen fired he still gave support to Susan.
